After 2 beers, a cheeseburger, fireworks, and the company of people I haven't seen in at least five years, I'm feeling extremely weird.
There's been a bit of feather-ruffling and commotion on Tim's site today. I guess Tim said some stuff that some other people disagree with, and the conversation took on a bit of a hostile vibe. For me personally, the part of my brain that comes up with cool stuff pretty much short circuits when it encounters "negative" debate. As soon as I perceive that there's an element of intellectual competition, I'm rendered helpless. (Okay, not helpless, but it certainly does take the wind out of my sails.)
To me there is nothing more nourishing and inspiring than a group of people sharing ideas simply because they're excited about the ideas and ESPECIALLY because they're excited to be bouncing them off one another. I think everyone has been totally on fire lately, and I think it's because we all really respect and value the input of the people with whom we're dialoguing. This kind of open and honest exchange really facilitates great forward motion. It's fun. It feeds my brain AND my heart.
